So R has been making curd in our house for the past 2 weeks *Gives happy look* I am training her well eh?
Every morning after her milk and before her bath, she takes a spoon of curd from the curd patram and puts it in the milk patram gives it a nice little stir, and in the evening when we are back, we get amazingly nice curd!
So officially thats the first duty I have assigned to her as a member of the R family. I hope to increase her responsibilities in the coming years š
Anyways, so she wanted to know how milk becomes curd when you add thodu sa curd into itna sara milk.
This is the tale I spun..go on laugh away
So one day there was a chotu chotu bacteria. Bahut bahut chotu.
R: Uska name kya tha
RM: errr (this girl needs a name for everything hmpf!) Lactu
R: hehehe Lactu
RM: yes Lactu
R: Acha amma, yeh bacteria kya hai? tiger?
RM: no no..bacteria is like a very very very small animal you cant see with you eyes…
R: Toh aapko kaise pata woh hai?
RM: Oh well, I have read about it when I was in school
R:Aapke teacher ne yeh story bola?
RM: Abhi story suno..and so, this Lactu was very very sad because everyone used to sad bad things about bacteria..arey arey go away from bacteria they cause fever, and illness
R: Kya illness amma?
RM: er…tummy ache aur fever aur aise sab
R: Kyun Amma
RM: Oye tereko story sunna hai ke nahi
R: okie amma
RM: So once she was sitting very very sadly when God came to meet her..God asked ‘why are you sad Lactu’ so Lactu said ‘Arey God, everyone keeps saying bacteria is bad, bacteria causes illness..isnt there just one good thing we can do so that people like us..we are not bad’
God said ‘dont worry Lactu, go find a patram of milk and you will realise’
Lactu said ‘Milk? whats that?’
God said ‘thats for you to find dear, go find it and get into it..all I can say is its liquid like water and very very yummy’
Lactu was confused..yeh kya bol rahe hain bhagwan..but she decided to go in search for milk
R: Kya karne ko Amma
RM: Arey story sun…anyways so bacteria starts walking searching for milk
She seeing a bright red liquid inside a glass bottle…she quickly rushes to the liquid and says ‘are you milk are you milk’
The liquid looks at her and says ‘please, I am not milk’ I am rose syrup..thats why I am nice and red in colour..
Lactu is a bit disappointed..oh where can I find milk
Red liquid says how do I know…and who are you anyways?
Lactu says I am bacteria..
Red liquid looks at her saying ‘go away from here, or I will fall sick’
Poor Lactu feels awful but she walks ahead
R: Woh ro rahi thi
RM: no no, she is just sad..anyways she walks ahead and she sees a nice green colour liquid in a plastic bottle
R: Arey Amma, milk toh white hota hai..usko nahi pata tha kya?
RM: no she didnt know that na..anyways she goes and asks the green liquid..are you milk?
Green liquid says ‘of course not, I am khus syrup thats why I am such a lovely soothing green..and who are you
Lactu says ‘well, I am bacteria’
Green liquid says ‘what bacteria? go away from here’
R: Kyun amma log itne rude hai?
RM: Ah well, baby, I wish everyone would think like you
anyways, so poor Lactu walks ahead until she finds a white colour liquid in a patram
Right in front of a patram are a little girl and her mother. Lactu hides behind the door and listens to them
R: Amma, door ke peeche se listen no karing na (basically she wants to say, we should listen behind doors..karing is Hindi + English)
RM: No you shouldnt..anyways, Lactu is standing there
The mother is worried ‘oh how much milk here, I dont know what to do..you have drunk your bounvita and appa and I have had our coffee’
What do we do with so much milk?
Lactu is very happy..finally she has found milk
The girl says ‘Amma, dont worry, lets just fold our hands and pray to God, I am sure God will do something about it
Mother smiles at the little girl and says ‘okay lets do it’
Just as the mother and girl close their eyes and fold their hands, ‘Lactu jumps into the milk patram
Amma then keeps the patram aside and starts with her work
AS soon as Lactu gets into the patram, she feels strong..then she multiplies and there are loads of bacteria inside the patram
R: Kaise Amma
RM: Arey umachi told her na…and soon all the bacteria convert all the milk into curd..ek dum thick, yummy, ice cream jaisa curd
R:WOW
RM: yes and then when the mother opens the patram, the milk is solid..
Oh what happened to the milk says mother
the girl comes and says ‘dekha amma, God gave us something new and starts to taste it
Mother says ‘arey dont do that..what if the milk is spoilt’
The girl says no no amma, taste a little its yummmmmmmm
So mother and girl have lots of curd. and thats how the milk became curd
Story over
R: Oh
after some time she looks at me and says ‘Amma, mereko bacteria kabhi dikhane wale ho?’
RM: !!!!
So you have taught R to curdle the milk. Smart little girl she is. The story is awesome.
Thanks Sumana…Its nice to see her get all excited about adding that curd bit to the milk na š
What a story RM!!,
Kids ask so many questions and we(I) just don’t know how to answer them. You actually told her a nice, kids loving story. While reading i was actually imagining bacteria as cartoon character and roaming around in the search of Milk. š
Very nice story i loved it and i hope R has finally understood that how milk turns into curd. right?
Glad you enjoyed š
I hope she understood š at least we had a good 20 minutes making up the story
Wah RM! ek dum mast story š
Thanks da š go on tell it to S..lets see her reaction
Awwww, what a cute little story! š
R is lucky to have one storyteller of a mother. š
LOL @ the last question by R. Why don’t you show her a bacteria under a microscope? If possible, that is. She will be able to correlate it with this story.
Abhi microscope kidhar re leke aao da š
hehehe nice story š
You hope to increase her responsibilities in coming years?? increasing how much?? I am tensed for R now.. bahot jyada nahi haan RM, woh chotu baby hai na š
arey if possible by 10 I hope she takes over the kitchen..hehehehe š
he he ! after a very long long time you writing a story š š yun amma log itne rude hai? I like this question š and your answer š people never learns to be polite, they will ask things in a low voice with a rude manner, and the low voice pretends as polite manner!!!!!!
In fact I will admit, I came to know today the right mixture of dahi needed to be added to milk š burrrr till this day I don’t know about it š I will try this today š
Jeez..saachimein…you didnt know about it hehehe š
little girl in home š so only cleaning vessels and sweeping home is my daily chores š cooking and related items is mama dept š I will never go near except to eat š
oh okie hehheeh š go on surprise your mama now..tell her you know how to make curd eh?
i will i will š š
arey R’s mom… u dont know these days …u can make such concept stories and sell books. y don’t u approach pratham or tulika. u have such amazing talent. U can make interesting veggie fruits and science stories such as these.
LOL on approaching pratham and tulika..then they will take a big broom and come to Bombay to chase me away š
Thanks for the compliments though..made me feel good
Super awesome story!
thanks rey š
How many times i hv to say this.. ur not only good story teller but u make ur kid understand those complicated thing in a simpler way!!
LOL..thanks Chaitali
I really wonder how you churn such beautiful stories out of such simple things! Nice story and nice duty to R š
Thanks Mathangi
Oh boy you sure can spin stories. š I will wait patiently for R to ask you that “question which every parent dreads” and for the story you will come up with which I can pass on to my brats šæ
Btw the Buddhu mother and the smart little girl in the end of the story is actually you and R no? *Sakshi pulls her collar up at her Brilliant Deduction*
LOL..then I will just explain her the truth eh?
Yes yes..those are me and R wonly…go on get that collar over your head š
After reading this story, mereko bhi bacteria dekhne ka hai. Aur Lacto se milna hai. Kabhi dekhaoge, RM? š
arey come to our side of town…then will show you the brat..she is as naughty as that bacteria š
I love it that you first narrated about the Lactu (what a name! š ) going to the liquids of other colours before finally finding milk. You are getting to be an expert at this aren’t you? š
R: Woh ro rahi thi
LOL! And she provides background effects š š
I think because the name of that bacteria is Lactobacillus or something..not sure š
Super like this story. Liked the way fact is mixed with fiction.
thanks so much Bhagyashree
That’s such a lovely yarn you’ve spun, R.
Thanks Jayashree š
R knows how curdle the milk, this gal is super smart. LOL loved the story, you have good future š
Errr…I taught her *looks proud* :):)
Big round of applause !!
Such a cute story! Will remember this story every time I make curd from now on š
We adults love it so much.. I am sure all kids would too.. U seriously should think about writing books for kids and share the joy !
and you are back!! hope you are fine da š
Thanks so much š
Hehehe! So cute! I was missing your stories & this one made an absolutely delightful read! So sweet of R to add thodusa curd in the milk! š
Gald you enjoyed š
thats a nice story, explaining science in fun manner. :).. love it..
except for the part that, you didnt answer R’s queries in btn, you tried to escape my darling’s questions by asking her to just listen to the continuing story. š
I pretend not to read your second sentence hehehehe š
Lactu? lol!!! Cute story re! U r good at it š

Wow! Awesome story:) you remind me of Sudha Murthy’s book “The Magic drum and other stories”. You should definitely think of publishing these story so that a wider group if children enjoy your awesome stories š
oh thats high compliment š
Thanks for saying that:)
RM! Looks like you will make a chef out of R – the rate at which you are handing out responsibilities and the rate at which she is doing amazingly well! š
Such a lovely story RM ! I never fail to re-read them many many times! š
Trying hard to make her a chef rey..so that I dont have to cook š
š so thats how CURD came to be … hmmmm I wonder why my teachers lied to me about how it s made .. this one makes perfect sense …
hahah! š
Wah wah what a story RM š And I luv the name ‘Lactu’ too š
hehehe š glad you enjoyed
That was a super story RM, I’m sure coming here when I have a kid. š

What a story, RM! When is your story collection coming out? Publishers! Are you listening?
LOL..thanks for the lovely support Zephyr..but I dont think thats happening š
Hahaha,… thats when Google comes into picture… show her the images and u get a chance to tell her about microscopes.. š
Real Nice Story.. Kudos… !!
oh yaa…you are right..it just didnt strike me..thanks Shweta..will do that today evening
Too cool….when are you becoming a children’s writer? I love the way you got in khus syrup and rose too…wish I was a kid listening to your stories š
