We reached back home today morning and I must admit we all are kind of happy. There is something amazing about seeing a familiar place after a long time! Now, when we entered the house, I have to say, I was VERY IMPRESSED with the way it looked! Which is very very rare in our house..like happens once in 8 years, after the older brat’s birth!!!
Since I am running out of topics to write, (its only the 12th today!!!) I thought let me just put down my expert advice, to the 3.49 readers of this blog on how you can return home and be pleased as soon as you open the door!
When you are leaving the house, before the vacation starts, if you have to leave at 11 AM, then get everything ready by 10 AM. I mean everything, which includes confirming if the kid of the house has finished potty and is wearing a fresh diaper (if you have no kids or older kids, ah well, I am just jealous!), all the suitcases and bags are closed (if you have a husband like mine, they will be closed only at 10.59 AM, after realizing that one of the favorite t shirts needs ironing, but just ignore that okay?) and your water bottles are filled.
In this one hour, (keep ignoring the spouse’s last minute packing) first go to the kitchen. Get all the utensils in the sink washed, dried and keep them INSIDE the cupboard. Then clean the platform thoroughly and ensure that your stove is covered with a clean cloth. Keep as less possible on the platform (you are allowed to shove everything into the cupboard, because remember its not the first thing you will see when you come inside after the vacation) and clean up the kitchen thoroughly. Yes, the kids will ask for water, just as you get the car keys out, but do remember to wash and dry and keep those glasses inside as well…in short, NOTHING ON THE KITCHEN PLATFORM!
Then go to the front room and pick up all the toys scattered around and dump them into a cupboard. If you are unlucky as I am and dont have a cupboard then just put them in a huge plastic bag and shove it underneath the bed. Then you cover the TV, and get the couches in place and ensure there is no spare paper lying here or there…in short, EVERYTHING SHOULD BE IN ORDER!
Then you go to the bedroom and ensure the covers are all straight and tucked in. The other advantage of this is, when you come back from the vacation, you will just need to remove the top bedsheet and wash it…put all the other stuff like pillows and everything, underneath this bedsheet so that life is easy when you come back. Fluff up the pillows and tighten up the bedsheets from the corner to avoid creases. Trust me the reaction you will get from the kids is (as R gave today), ‘Oh my God, Amma, the house looks soooo clean..look at our bed!’
Then go to the toilet and clean up properly. Same with the bathroom. Just put in like 10 mugs of water on the walls and everything and close the door and bar anyone else from using it..of course, if you have a family like mine, which wants to use the toilet just before leaving, then ensure you are the last one to use it so that it remains CLEAN..
That’s it folks…one hour will give you just enough time to do this…And see how wonderful your house will look when you come back after a long trip..
PS – My posts are going to get crazier since I am seriously running out of things to write…the few readers of this blog..dont give up on me!!!!
