And So……

I turn 31 today…its weird, when I was 13, I thought I would never turn 31..it seemed way too far, who on earth at 13, would think that they would ever turn 31…

Somehow, it doesnt feel 31…you know how they say mature, and responsible….I think I am a bit responsible now (What boss, I am a mother eh?) like RD said the other day in the train..oh you remembered to get Bournvita in a dabba for R to drink with plain milk, you are growing up arent you..

ah well! guess I am…

What exactly do I plan to do on my birthday?

Actually nothing, may be pick up a couple of T shirts for two people I promised I will paint the HP stuff, and just go home and eat some roti subji 🙂

Day before yesterday, R and I were lying down on the bed after RD left for work

R: Amma, today holiday che?
RM: yes yes
R: What is date aaj?
RM: 19th September
R: Kal 20th September..aur uske baad kya hai..bolo bolo
RM: heheheeh 🙂
R: bolo bolo happy happy..kiska happy
RM: yipeeee mera happy birthday hai
R: yayayayayaya!

Talk about the kiddo growing up…I thought I still had 10 years to see her do this 😦

As I turn 31, is there anything in my life I would have wanted to change?
1. Myself when I was in college. I so wish I would have had some more fun, wouldnt have been such a nerd and bunked at least 1 lecture.

But, am I regretting myself in college.

Nah! I had my share of fun in nice ways. With friend N and cousin K, life had its own charm. With guys begging me to loan my notes just as PLs began, 33 copies of the note book, the guys cursing me for having large handwriting which meant more money on more pages, etc etc…it was fun in its own way.

So, nope, I dont want to change that.

2. My marriage age.

I wish I got married a bit later, having enjoyed some more of my courtship days.

But, nah!

It would mean more long distance relations, more broken shoes and more money spent on phone and train tickets. Guess, its fine the way it turned out.

3. My choice of town.

Yes, for the first time in 31 years, about 2 weeks ago, I regretted the fact that I chose Bombay. and I think I still stand by it. The Bombay I love doesnt seem to be lovely enough anymore. Is it because I am getting older or is it because I am getting more finicky. The traffic, the long distances, the hurry up right now or you miss the train life seems to be slowly but surely catching up on me. Am I craving to go anywhere else? yes perhaps I am!

4. My choice of career

Again, yes perhaps, because while I am not not-enjoying what I am doing, I wish I could do something more creative. But again, I guess for a perpetual cribber like me, anything I do, I will crib, so this one isnt bad at all 🙂 and hey I blog…take out all my creative juices eh?

5. Friends

I dont want to change my friends, but I surely wish I had more friends, friends I am closer to, friends I know will talk to me at even 2 in the night, friends I can depend in this city in case of emergency. I am not sure if I can think of a single person I can call if I need to pick up R suddenly if RD or I cant reach her. May be like my parents and Zephyr said, you have never needed it. you call anyone and they will come. Ah Well! I hope I never have to trouble anyone 🙂

6. My Spouse

I told RD in Bangalore the other day ‘I like the RD of 2012 than the RD of 2006’
and surprisingly its true!
The more I live with him, the more I seem to like him, though I still have my grouses with him.

7. My house

I want to make it really like those houses they show in those magazines and stuff..you know with curios and lighting and those painted walls etc etc..

But honestly maintaining that house will be tough, so I guess, I am  happy as it is 😉
On Gifts and Practicality

RD picks up R yesterday.

RD: Amma ko kya dena hai birthday ke liye

R thinks for two minutes

R : Cheeni ka dabba

RD: What?

R: Arey amma broken unka cheeni dabba that day na (my glass jar broke!) so we give her cheeni ka dabba

Practical to the core eh?

RD rushes to call up my mother to let her know how her granddaughter is pretty much having the same set of genes as her 🙂

This proves that R definitely belongs to my side of the family. WE always gives practical gifts wanted for the house/person instead of flowers and chocolates

Gifts got

1. Cheeni ka dabba
2. Chocolates
3. a backpack (mine had broken before the Bangalore trip)
4. A big early morning Happy Birthday from the brat without waking her up
5. A sleepy happy birthday from the husband as my alarm rang
6. A big kiss and hug from both of them
7. A good dinner tomorrow hopefully?
Happy Birthday RM 🙂

I like reading your posts…. delurking to update that sometimes ur posts remind me of how I used to write(small joys in mundane everyday activities).. Me too turned 31 this year and I had exactly the same sentiments…

I sometimes feel I am growing older in terms of years but in person I am still the same person I was years earlier 😛

Err…what are you so upset about? That she remembered and wished you? 😐

I am getting there myself. And I am only 27. So you have company.

thanks a ton Gayatri..so sweet of you to say that…yep I know the Kareena Kapoor connection, unfortunately, thats the only thing I share with her eh?

      • Gayatri says:

I hope you only have that connection with Kareena Kapoor. I don’t particularly like her and that feeling is intensified after viewing her recent song-dance :). Maybe I’m being a hypocrite but I do like the “sheila ki jawani” song (not the dance)!
