I am back to the story telling mode…and guess what inspired me ‘The Bombay Rains’
There, I can see most of the regular readers gasp in surprise, jaws wide open and some light hearted folks may even have fainted by now…
RM, the Bombay Rain Hater, got a story for her daughter inspired by the rains..
Yes yes…
So this is how it goes
R and I are walking from our BEST ka bus stop to her school bus ka bus stop.
It rained like for 3.4567 seconds in our area after which the sun went behind the clouds.
R: Amma, aaj sun kyun nahi aya (Amma, why didnt the sun come today)
RM: Aya toh hai (its there na)
R: With her hands in the alapadma pose: Kidhar? (Where)
RM: arey its behind the clouds…
R: Kyun Amma
RM: Ah! well…
So what happened was, the sun was coming out from the east (R: Amma, sun east mein rise hota hai na, RM: yes yes)
And then the clouds came in his way..when he went left, they went left, when he went right, they went right..but they wouldnt let him come..
Sun asked ‘Why are you not letting me go ahead? I have to rise, its morning’
Clouds: We wont let you go
Sun very rudely tells them ‘Move from my way’
clouds say ‘no we wont’
and they have a mini fight..
Then sun goes complaining to their teacher, God.
R: Complain nahi karne ka na amma? (we should not complain na?)
RM: Ah! well. listen ahead.
So sun said ‘God God, these clouds are not letting me rise and blocking my path’
God says ‘arey, did you say please? Havent I taught you that when you want something you should request, may be they will agree’
Sun said ‘yes yes God, I forgot, I was rude to them…may be if I ask politely they will let me move’
So sun goes back to the clouds and says ‘please clouds can you move? I have to rise’
R: Please bolne ka na pahele se (He should have said please right from the start na)
RM: yes yes, but the clouds didnt agree
They also answered back very politely, no dear Sun, we have to be here.
Sun felt sad that despite of his saying please, they didnt agree.
So he went back to God and said ‘I said please, but the clouds are not letting me pass’
God said ‘did you try and find out the reason why they are blocking you? It may be for a reason na’
Sun said ‘yes yes, why didnt I think of it? I am going to politely ask them for the reason. Thank you God for teaching me the right manners’
So sun goes to the clouds and says ‘Please clouds can you let me know WHY you are not letting me rise?’
Clouds say ‘Dear Sun, we are here to bring rain, if we dont rain on earth, people will have water problems and they may start falling sick. Its for the good of the people on earth, that we are here’
Sun says ‘Oh! Thats so nice. I misunderstood you, I am sorry.’
Clouds say ‘no we are sorry, we should have told you earlier. We also acted over smart, sorry sun’
and so the sun and clouds became friends.
They decided one thing.
R: Kya Amma
RM: For four months in a year, the sun allows the clouds to cover him and the clouds will give rain on earth. And during these four months sometimes the clouds will come out and sometimes the sun will come out.
R: Tabhi we will have rainy season?
RM: yes baby you are right.
And then the sun and the clouds became very good friends and started dancing together. The sun was shining brightly and the clouds started pouring rains. and their dance made the rainbow come out and all the seven colours of the rainbow also started shining.
R: Mereko bhi rainbow see karne ka hai..
RM: Errr..it has to rain for that baby
and while it seems unbelievable, just then the sun started shining a bit from behind the clouds.
R: Dekho amma, sun bhi hai, clouds bhi hai, toh rainbow ayega?? (She looked so hopeful and was grinning)
RM: baby it has to rain, other wise the rainbow cant come.
R: A tad bit disappointed, okie amma
Acha rainbow nahi, toh mera school bus toh ayega? (If not the rainbow, at least my school bus will come 🙂 )
and so, thats how RM got inspired and told the story of the Sun/clouds and rainbow to the brat 🙂
LOL, nice story to introduce please sorry and thankyou and also kind of get the seasons. Now this is an inspiration for the tinylittle household as well.

Chucking the job is not an option rey..we need the money 😉 as long as brilliant writers like you enjoy, the story teller in me is more than happy 🙂

“The sun was shining brightly and the clouds started pouring rains. and their dance made the rainbow come out and all the seven colours of the rainbow also started shining.” Sweeeeeeeeeeet…..
I like happy stories………And all your stories are happy ones….So, i like your stories 🙂
hahah! I like your logic of liking my stories..thanks
Amazing. Will definitely tell this to S .
I hope it is enjoyed
Wow that was super cool! Never ever I could imagine spinning such a nice story out of this simple phenomenon. Will go and tell this to sun. I have to change it to match Singapore climate. 2 days in a week clouds will hide sun and give rains.. That too for 3 hours only after that sun will be back to form.. Here I go to tell the story 🙂
got the ‘son’ and ‘sun’ typo….hope both the ‘son’ and the ‘sun in Singapore’ enjoy it 🙂
alapadma pose!!! LOL… you for one, are never short of descriptions I see! 😛 😀
Love the way you inculcate the idea that people should mind their manners, ask politely, be friends etc. in all your stories…. 🙂
thanks thanks 🙂
Will go and tell this to sun
Err.. that was intended to be my *Son* not *Sun*
Sorry for the typo..
What a lovely story RM! really, you must at least TRY giving these to a publisher, OK?? you never know they might just get published.
hahah! Uma, nahi rey..I dont think I have that confidence 🙂

hahahah Swaram, now thats impossible..the other day when I went for a hair cut, there was a kid whose mom had to do some waxing..while I was trying to entertain her (R was not there) she looked at me and started crying making things worse 😦
