Of Unexpected Phone Calls

Incident #1

Imagine being crazy midst work with number crunching in its peak and deadline looming overhead

Phone rings..unknown number

RM: Hello

Voice: Hi, is this RM

RM very rudely : yes whose this

Voice: Errr..is this RM

RM even more rudely: yes it is, whose this

Voice: getting a bit scared: hey its Nithvin

RM: Gosh! Nithvin, Hi..listen, can I call you back in the evening

Nithvin: of course any time, sorry to have disturbed you

RM keeps the phone down

Collegue: Baapย rey, if I was on that phone on the other end, I would never dare to call you again, how rude can you get

RM: :(:(

Then of course, I did call her up and apologise and she was sweet enough to pretend that I wasnt rude!

Incident #2

Imagine yourself at work and a un known number rings

RM: Hello?

Voice: hi, is this RM

RM: yes, whose this please

Voice: Hey, its Deeps

RM: oh Deeps, is that really you?

As if someone else is going to call me and say that she is Deeps *Rolls eyes*

and we talk along as if we know each other for life (Actually its our first phone call)

I tell her that I thought she was a crank call which I sometimes get from Pakistan and she is like huh?

After the call, its 10 minutes into lunch time and I am still grinning like a cat swallowed the canary or something in those lines

Colleague: so you have friends in Pakistan?

RM: Pakistan..no nahi..

C: but you just said that right?

RM: errr…errr…

C: you look so happy…childhood friend ka phone tha kya?

RM: ah well!

there Deeps, now you know what I looked like after your call ๐Ÿ™‚

Incident #3

I get an email from Aniย  who asks me for my right number..said she called earlier on some other number, and couldnt get through me

I give her my number

On Saturday evening, after our trip to the Science Centre, I get a call from an unknown number

RM: Hello

Voice: Hey RM, its Ani

RM: oh Ani

and we go jabber jabberย jabber..she wants to talk to R, but the brat refuses hmpf!

and then comes the fun

The darling lady speaks Hindi..Gosh people, I wish I could record her Hindi..its the sweetest Hindi I have ever heard anyone speak…its soย cute (full of accent) and so adorable that I couldnt help but laugh…and its perfect grammatically…While my Hindi sounds typical Mumbaiyya…her Hindi sounds just perfect..Awww…I am in love with that kind of Hindi ๐Ÿ™‚

Three phone calls, all three unexpected, all in a span of a week, all giving me so much joy that I think my heart would burst..

Blogging is definitely fun ๐Ÿ™‚

  5. Visha says:

    Surprise calls are the best!!

  6. Mathangi Vijay says:

  8. Deeps says:

OMG I still burst out laughing when I think of how you thought me to be the prank-caller from Pakistan!! ๐Ÿ˜† Really, RM, you’re much in demand! ๐Ÿ˜€

I am so glad we spoke, RM! As you said it never felt for a moment as though we were talking for the first time. Some people are such joy to talk to and you are one such person.

Chalo enough of buttering you..now better get planning for the Delhi trip in Aug, ok? I’m looking forward to meeting you then ๐Ÿ™‚

  9. ashreyamom says:

nice to hear that so many bloggers have called u.. if feels good, when ppl think of u..
i too behave strangely when i get calls from stranger, unknown numbers, i cant keep my self calm until i know the other persons name..
kids, i know, they will never talk on phone when u want them to, and when u want to talk, they keep pulling the receiver..

    • R's Mom says:

I can understand that state of uncalmness…I hate it when people say guess who? Gosh I cant recognize anyone’s voice including my Amma and RD’s!!!

  10. Scribby says:

wow I’m yet to talk to Ani but have spoken to Deeps…isn’t she a chatterbox with whom you feel like your duplicate is talking at the other end? all we bloggers have one thing in common for sure….we love talking and that’s what brings us closer…blogging is just another type of talking no? ๐Ÿ™‚

    YAY to blog world…..

P.S. hmmmpf you never mentioned me or my calls or my emails in such glory ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ ๐Ÿ˜ฆ sob sob *yes I’m belong to the drama queen fraternity, didn’t you know that* …continues to sob !!!

  11. techie2mom says:

Wow, how does it feel to read about the person and then talk her!!!!!
Isn’t it like a scene from the trailer of the movie Teri Meri Kahnai, where the Shahid tells Priyanka, “Humare bich me VOH nahi hona chahiye” ๐Ÿ™‚ ????
Here VOH is talking on sms & BBM & then meeting & having nothing to say….
From the post it’s clear that Aapke aur Nithvin, Aapke aur Ani & Aapke aur Deeps ke bich me VOH nahi hua!!!!!
    Enjoy…..

  12. Must have been one awesome time RM ๐Ÿ™‚ To read a person’s writing, become friends and thentalk ot them on phone and meet them and then exchange amazing gifts – you’ve done it all ! :))

  13. Nithvin says:

I am seeing this only now..so crazily busy with work ๐Ÿ˜ฆ
Just smiling ..can’t stop smiling..will comment in leisure later ๐Ÿ™‚

    • R's Mom says:

hahaha! okie ๐Ÿ™‚ Sorry again for the rude response ๐Ÿ™‚

      • Nithvin says:

Two facts first: You didn’t sound all that rude as you have mentioned.. The first ‘Hello’ from you was a bit like that but I was not put off or anything as it must have been a strange number to you and I was actually surprised that you did pick up that call when you were so busy :). Second, one of the first things that came to my mind after hearing your voice was that ‘she has such a sweet voice!’. I know I didn’t mention it over the phone (where was the time? ๐Ÿ˜‰ ) and no, I am not writing this after reading your today’s post ๐Ÿ™‚

  14. Smita says:

    It definitely is ๐Ÿ™‚
I remember playing a prank on a fellow blogger, I irritated him with a volley of SMSes. Now he is a friend for life ๐Ÿ™‚ That is blogging for you ๐Ÿ™‚

  15. anisnest says:

Arey thanks for the mention yaar and muah to you for appreciating (err I couldn’t figure if you are appreciating or pulling my leg) my Hindi.. ๐Ÿ™‚

  16. summerscript says:

    Awwwww ๐Ÿ™‚ ๐Ÿ™‚
    I am super J ๐Ÿ˜€

  17. Ashwathy says:

Deeps calls all the way from there and you have the nerve to tell her you thought it was a crank call from Pakistan??? ROFL! ๐Ÿ˜€

Learn to recognze the difference, woman! The pakistani number is +92… Deeps would definitely be +971 something.

Hey Deeps, I’d just like to remind you that she is not the only one in Mumbai!

    • R's Mom says:

I guess..I just saw the +9 and got confused :):)

Errr..Deeps is +974 *Sticks tongue out*

    • Deeps says:

And Ash, I’d like to remind you that I will be visiting home again…so lets meet up again, what say? I havent had enough of the Select City Mall and the choco ice cream of course ;).

      • R's Mom says:

Select City Mall kidhar hai bombay mein? Ash is a Bombay wasi now hehehe ๐Ÿ™‚ So now come down here to meet both of us…what say Ash?
