More on the Weekend Trivandrum Trip

1) RD got lost..no no not like lost -lost….lost as in we lost our way from the hotel to the mandapam!…yes yes yes yes yes…I am joyful…yaa yaa he married a sadist…imagine what I havent witnessed in SIX make it 6.5 years, I witnessed in Trivandrum…I was so happy that we got lost!!! Total Blogworthy moment!!!

2) The road to the hotel is kinda busy..well at least for Trivandrum standards…so RD, R and I are trying to cross it..we cross half the road and turn the other side to see a bus approaching…I am not carrying R, she is walking..my heart is in my mouth..the bus driver actually STOPPED…I mean actually stopped for us to cross and gave us a wave…I was shocked at his niceness..R gave him a beautiful smile back..:)

3) R has decided that she is settling down in Coimbatore with my SIL’s in laws..apparantly her Coimbatore thatha and thathi are nice and give her what she wants and she doesnt want to attend school any more

4) We were eating kara vadai when the ‘thali’ cermony was on..yes we are cool cousins that ways…I didnt want to see the emotional moment…I get too filmy and all that..so we decided to eat the famed karavadai of Trivandrum

5) The driver of the car which chittappa hired was kinda weird…he got angry at RD because RD asked him to drop us back to the hotel for the second time in 2 hours..he tells RD’ how many times do you want to go’ RD didnt say anything and said can you please take us!!!

6) Pothys is definitely NOT the place to shop for anything…Shail had given me a list of shops to go shopping, but unfortunately most of them were closed on Sunday..someone suggested Pothys and I will never go there again..its SO DAMN CONFUSING!!!! I mean bloody 6 stores of clothes…and IT WAS FULL…where is the recession in India man?

7) The Bong connection continues…we found a shop where we got sweets for R to eat and the guys serving there turned out to be Bongs from Howrah…RD spoke in chaste Bong and the guys were so happy 🙂

8) The next time I travel by Jet Airlines, I am going to order the child meal..its so damn much  better than the sad food they serve the adults

9) R is getting to be crazier by the day…after the annual day (Seema, post coming up later in the week) she is singing songs like ‘Nursery C ka song che ‘ angrezi mein bolu chu ke ‘I love you’, Gujarati ma bolu chu ke’ prem karu chu’ and then Nursery E ka song hai ‘Saar pe topi laal aur daal ke laal laal laal oye tera kahena laal’ – All through the wait to the aeroplane to Mumbai she drove me and RD crazy with this song…the laaal wala song…uffff!!!! and oh she also does actions of the topi on her head and all that….infact she was a good entertainment factor to the bored people at the airport!

10) The rick guys are surprising very nice in Trivandrum…we got cheated only once…the guy charged us some Rs.100 from the beach to hotel which while going we paid only Rs.60..but thats okie..otherwise really nice and sweet people 🙂

11) Leaving with an Rism

RD: R, who all are there in your class
R: eh?
RD: do you have marathis in the class?
R: No, there are marathis, Engleeesh, Hindis…
RD: oh! so what are you, R?

The brat thinks for two seconds

R: main toh Gujarati hoon

*Just to clarify, her class has about 98% Gujju students*

Note a proud mother and a heart broken father around her…

See see..all this training in Gujju is of use heheheheh *Sticks tongue out at RD*

  1. First things first, I hope Seema is not coming behind you with a pistol for not posting about R’s Annual Day yet! 😀
    1) Heh.. I mean, poor RD!
    2) I guess you were a good bus driver during your previous birth. You seem to spot them wherever you go! 😉
3)And I love Coimbatore too. The weather is awesome there. And I think there are schools available in Coimbatore? No? 😉
    4) What? You travelled all the way to Trivandrum and didn’t witness ‘THE’ moment?!
    6) Is there a Pothys in Trivandrum? News to me. And you went to POTHYS? My sympathies are with you!
    8) But.. But.. Will a children’s meal be sufficient for you, RM? **Runs**
    10) You were NOT cheated by the autowalla, okay. (P.S. – I am from proper Madras!)
And thankfully you posted the bit on Rism in the end. Else, Seema-matha would have killed you! 😀 😀

    • R's Mom says:

      oh she will 🙂

#2 yep yep…I may have been one 🙂

#3 I have been there twice..the weather is pretty nice na…but I dont think R was enthused about the weather..it was more about the pampering grandparents 🙂

#4 I told you earlier na I am weird 🙂

      #6 Oh a BEEEEG One!!

      #8 Gah!

#10 hahahah I know..chennai guys are a different breed in themselves na 🙂

See how scared I am of Seema 🙂

  2. Ashwathy says:

    1) What is there to gloat?? 🙄 You get lost in your own city…you couldn’t find your way from your eyes to your nose!! Atleast RD got lost only in a city he hasn’t been to before….or atleast not there in a long time now! 😛

    2) You met one of the nice varieties I guess…. there can be those who yell at having to stop as well…

    3) LOL 😀 Smart kid!

    4) karavada?? WTH is that?? 😐 I suspect you are using the wrong name for it. Vada I know…uzhunnu vada and parippu vada. But what’s this one?

    5) Um….,maybe you should have told him that’s what he was hired for in the first place? 😛 😐 Duh!

    6) Hahaha you walk into ANY well-known clothes shop and the scene is all the same!! 😛

    8) Is it?? Gotta try it the next time! 😛 Oh wait, I have to find a kid to travel along with me na…damn!

    10) You have to be careful around auto-guys… good to know you didn’t cheated often.

    11) WHAT!!! 😯 You have already told the kid to start taking sides??? You horrible sadistic manipulative woman!! And u r not even a proper Gujju and you are taking pride in it like twenty generations behind you were Gujju!!! 😛 Jesus, wait till the day I meet you!! I’m going to beat you black n blue until you won’t be able to say the ‘G’ of Gujju!!! 😡 GRRRR!!!!

  3. Seema says:

Lottsa love to R. I just loved her songs. (Okay, I agree it can be irritating if hummed in a loop!) I wanna listen to her re…

Thanks for the clarification on 9. You know I would have asked otherwise na? Hahaha…

  4. 😆 😆 at R singing all those lubly songs…way to go R!!! and err tell her Sakshi Didi too loves such mast numbers 😉

phew you guys have immense energy to do so many things!! Take me out of my home and all I want to do is sit with a book, eat and sleep….and err click nature and butts

  5. RS says:

First things first – Just 1 Rism is NOT enough! Im sure with all this travelling and exposure to family there should be more 🙂

RD would’ve been happier if she had said she is a Bong na? 😀

I’ve noticed thast I become mushy and teary at weddings during the kanyadaan – only these days – after my own wedding! Until then I would think how much of melodrama these people do! Huh! This is what I think experience is…

Leave R with the Coimbatore Thatha Thathi na… Err… you will get time for yourself then 😛 – see im talking *just* like those maamis now 🙂

    • R's Mom says:

I have another Rism coming up after the annual day post 🙂

Errr…no RD wants her to be a Tambram 🙂

Errr…I dont care about the mushiness…it kinda un nerves me when I see elders with tears in their eyes and all that 🙂

      LOL on the last line

  6. My era says:

Aww…no wonder R is a sweetheart, that made even the bus driver stop the bus for her 😀
Your posts are like energy boosters at the start of the day 😀
Now am waiting for all the blog-worthy moments to quickly change to full length posts with more details on the sir pe topi lal lal 😆 😆

  7. Tharani says:

    Ok i want kara vadai.
RD got lost and you are laughing.. Woman what are you. But wait I would have also laughed if AV got lost. He he he
R is so cute RM. If you keep writing about her like this, I just will catch the next flight to Mumbai and land in your house just to meet her.

    • R's Mom says:

see see..you know Karavadai na….its a real thing right?

Come rey…she would love to have you guys around…you and AV can have a second honeymoon here 🙂

  11. uma says:

Even I don’t like to shop in crowded places..but FYI I got all my wedding sarees from Pothys, Chennai..really liked the collection..:-)
    R is definitely a gujju..:-)

  12. shail says:

A hired driver getting angry when he has to drive you someplace?! Why was he hired in the first place? To catch up on his sleep? 🙄
And going to Shankhumukham cost you less than returning? 😆
You go to any of these high profile shops (esp gold) and you end up with, “What recession?” 🙄
And oh, I am so glad the bus driver stopped. You must have been thoroughly shaken up.

  13. Sreetama says:

Hahaha! I didn’t quite get it, how did RD get lost? Did he lose his way from the hotel to the mandap? Lol on Main toh Gujarati hu!!! I can so very well understand the broken heart part! 😛 You too learn some from RD na! Then me, you & Seema can gossip in ! 😀

  14. garima says:

Is ‘thali cermony ‘ similar to ‘vidai’ or a ceremony where guy puts sindoor that really is emotional scene.I dont watch that scene in my own mariage CD 🙂

Yeah R took after her mom and is ture gujju…Its Ok RD dont feel bad probably R2 will have bong likings 😉

    • R's Mom says:

well..its not vidai..its the cermony when the guy ties the mangalsutra to the girl 🙂

WHAT!! *Falls at feet* you watched your marriage CD…I think the whole CD of ours was a waste of money..we didnt even watch for 10 minutes 😦

Errr…I pretend not to read your last line 🙂

  15. I am enjoying reading about your Tiruananthapuram trip.(Note, it’s not supposed to be Trivandrum. That was the Englishman’s corruption of the name)

    Random comments:

Kara vadai? I will join Ashwathy is asking “What is that?”
You possibly mean kaaradai? (pronounced कारडय in Hindi , or કારડય in Gujarati)
Was it white in colour? like a flattened dougnhut? about 2 to 3″ in outer diameter and a half inch diameter central hole?
In that case you were talking about kaaradai (also callued Nombu, or નોમ્બુ, नोंबु)
Two varieties are made, one is salty and white in colour, and the other is sweetened with addition of jaggery and dark gold in colour.

R want’s to settle in Coimbatore? I can cure that. Leave here with me and my wife for a day. She will want to settle in Bangalore.

Bongs in Kerala? There is no place where you don’t find a Bengali and no place where you don’t find a Malayali either. They are kindred souls. Both swear by communism, smoke plenty of cigarettes, love football and fish!

Add the “Sar pe laal. “, and “angrezi meh kehte hain” songs too to my “Why this Kolaveri Di” farmaish list. Would love to hear R singing them.

Yes, the Rick wallas don’t go by the meter like they do in Bangalore. They don’t have enough passengers and enough trips to make operating by meter economically worthwhile as in Bangalore. But you generally feel safe with them. They may over charge but I have never heard of them misbehaving.

    “main to Gujarati hoon?”
No. She can’t be Gujarati if she said that.
    She ought to have said હૂઁ તો ગુજરાતી છૂં

There is still hope for RD

    Regards
    GV
