…..bring a smile on your face
* you are climbing up the stairs at work, behind a guy and a girl who you know are a couple and recent parents….the girl’s floor comes and the guy is walking a bit away from her but gives his hand a gentle wave, touches her dupatta, she smiles, he smiles, eyes meet and he walks ahead..not a word exchanged but RM is a puddle of mushiness 🙂
* you run and run with baby and bag and all that, only to realise that the bus you are trying it catch is not even the one you have to catch…the driver stops the bus, smiles at you, shrugs apologetically and then drives away…
*’R, teri mama aa gayi, yeh le tera shoes’ your child’s friend calls her and gives her shoes to her…and I melt with the love between them
*you are walking down the market and see a young boy holding the hand of an old lady with a walking stick and telling her ‘baa, tame dheeme chalo, hoon hath pakadu chu ne’ (Grandmom, you walk slowly, I am holding your hand na)
*You see a newly wed couple in the mall holding hands and walking oblivious of the surrounding…and how did I figure out they were newly wed..no no, I didnt go and ask, I didnt want to break the moment, the girl’s hands were full of the marriage bangles which the North Indians wear after marriage for an year or so…(It has a specific name, I cant recall!)
*You are at the fruit seller and one aunty who is obviously a regular is haggling for Rs.20 with the fruit seller…the guy gets bugged and says ‘take it take it’ when the aunty smiles back saying ‘acha theek che, new year aave che ne, etle hoonj extra aapi dau’ (its okie, since the new year is coming, I will only give you extra) and hands him the Rs.20 in question..honestly, I just broke into a smile when I heard the two talk and the fruit seller looking back at her astonished 🙂
*A stunning girl gets into the bus with you and is standing to get off the stop with you and daughter…you ask her if she is getting off while your daughter manages to tug her shawl..she looks down, smiles, gives her a toffee and then walks away..only to meet you again at the bus stop where your child’s school is going to come..as her friend comes to pick her up in his awesome bike, she sits on it and then your child says ‘bye didi’ and she turns around, gives a super flying kiss and your daughter’s face splits into two with a smile 🙂
🙂 🙂 🙂
Everyday moments captured beautifully RM
Thanks thanks
They are called “choodas”. Love this post RM. I needed to smile. Thanks.
yes yes they are called ‘choodas’ thanks 🙂
This time during my Kerala trip I thought choodas have become universal.
I saw couples talking in tamil, marathi all sporting choodas.
Had fun seeing them
you did *looks shocked* isnt it cumbersome to wear!
I had a big smile when I came to the end of the post 🙂
Glad to make you smile 🙂
1. Me too blushing and all. It’s so good to see romance alive in couples even after many years of marriage na?
2. Here, I really pity you sweetheart. Hugs 😀 (This is how you get trained for the marathon, don’t you?)
3. And it amazes me how kids recognize each of their friend’s parents accurately…
4. That’s cute 🙂
5. Is it called ‘Jooda’? I’m not pretty sure though.
6. Aww, I would never have done that. (I’m your stingy sistah, you see?)
7. That’s way too cute. Reminds me of our auto rides back home in the evenings. Most often, we are stuck in a traffic jam in one particular place and young girls and boys on two wheelers wave at Mantam, and Mantam will offer whatever they are eating to them in sign language and they would shake their head with a cute smile and signal Mantam to proceed eating. Whenever I see this, I smile and think of your ‘Guaranteed to…’ series.
LOL on the marathon training..GAh! you gave me secret away :):)
awww… on the auto ride :):)
LOL@ marathon training 😀
Gah to you!
and this sure did bring a smile to my face..a BIG smile..:-)

yaa yaa…got the comment, I think its taking your comments to spam…dont know why!!!
The Bangles Newly wed North Indians wear after marriage are called – “Churha” (Red and White Ivory Bangles) . It is a Tradition in Punjabi Household but these days it has become a Fashion Statement Among North Indians whether they are Punjabi or not though I have heard in Rajasthan/ Uttar Pradesh there is a tradition to wear Green Glass Bangles similar to in Maharashtra.
Also there is a Churha Ceremony in the morning of the wedding day (Since north Indian weddings generally happen at night) in which the maternal Uncle and Aunty (Mama-Mami) of the bride gifts her the Churha and makes her wear it as the Girl herself is not allowed to see the bangles until she has worn them *Weird I know*.
After that the Girl’s sisters and friends tie kaleerein (The Golden Hangings) on an Iron Bangle on each hand. You must have seen them in Song – Gurh naal Ishq Mitha (Jas Arora and Malika Arora Khan) and then the bride to be tries to make it fall on the unmarried girls. It is said – Jiske sar pe kaleerein giri next shaadi uski.
Wow..thats a lovely comment with a lot of info…thanks a lot…isnt that super nice of you to let us know this…

See, how dependent you are on RD. I had a dream yesterday where you and R were there, I saw myself so worried about you managing everything without RD. How will you fold the clothes, hang the clothes, lock the door, pick up R and all that. I know you can manage well but then its strenuous doing things single handedly. Missing RD here 😀
you dreamt about me..awwww! how sweet is THAT :):)
Errr…you really read my blog well na…you know what all chores RD does hahahah 🙂
