And So We Are Turning Cooks

This is an unexpected Sunday post…I hardly post on weekends…but I had to do this one..

Womensweb came up with this interesting contest on lets make Cooking is Child’s play where you write an interesting recipe which you can cook WITH a child

Cooking and me are lines which are rarely intersecting..but still I have never missed out on a contest which has come up in womensweb (I have never won any of them is not something we should be dwelling on) so here is my entry to the contest

Aim: To win the Womensweb cooking is child’s play contest

Method:

1. Butter up R to agree to cook with me
2. Think of a special recipe which can be done by a three year old
which means that
a. it cant be something that can be done on the gas
b. it cant involve cutting chopping etc to a very high level
c. it cant be something that will take time

3. Butter up RD to click some photos which means to fulfill both 1 and 3, R and RD have to be in a good mood

So here we go *Drumrolls and crackers* RM and R plan to cook the ever simple lemon juice to be stored in the fridge recipe..what it says cooking…doesnt specify whether or not it cant be juice..*Wink*

R with the ingredients…

you need
lemons (Which RM was pretty greedy and brought for 14 for Rs.10 from the market when it was pouring cats and dogs on Thursday!)
Sugar
Salt (missing in the pic)
Knife
Lemon juice Squeezer
A three year old who is very very enthusiastic

Make her roll the lemons up and down, up and down…you can try singing songs or maybe make her say zor lagake haiya or something and keep working on it..since there are loads of them..makes sense to bribe her a bit as well

My role in the recipe involved only cutting the lemons since R is definitely young to handle a knife by herself

Put the lemon inside the lemon squeezer….here she was refusing to pose properly so RD made her just put her finger on the lemon for photo ops sake πŸ˜‰

Squeeze, squeeze, squeeze with all your might.. (Above)

Below – the poor squeezed lemons and the lime juice extracted

Add a heapful of sugar to it and ask..amma baas..and amma says add more add more…so keep adding in glee

 Add a pinch of salt

put the salt in and since moisture is stuck to the salt…amma helps to put it inside completely

Above: Stir it round and round..the ways to do it is to make her sing wheels of the bus or something in those lines πŸ™‚

Tada! and we have the juice ready..which ma has kept out of reach but we make a grab to it claiming ‘I made it’

 Better picture here :):)

So in short here is the recipe
1. Take the lemons
2. Squeeze the life out of them
3. Add some sugar
4. Add some salt
5. Stir it well
6. Refrigerate it and then use it little little everyday to make lime juice by adding water of required amount in it πŸ™‚

There is my first (and perhaps last!) attempt to enter a cookery contest… πŸ™‚ Mission Accomplished

very good.. so you are also developing interest in R to cook for herself.. this can also become part of vacation games na..i like the pictorial demonstration of the recipe..its sequential and elaborate..i think i can show this my daughter when she turns 3 and inspire her to cook..all the best.. hope you win the contest..( doubt: does the contest require only recipe for kid or the recipe with your kid doing it?)
