To R, on Her Second Birthday

Finally my baby completed TWO years on planet Earth..and while at times it feels like oh my God its already two years..that was so fast…it also feels like Gosh its been eternity since R landed on earth πŸ™‚
So R this one is for you..
“Dear R,
Thank you for being my daughter..and as usual the only child who will ever come to me (no other kid seems to like my presence too much πŸ™‚
Thank you for being a wonderful child to both me and your dad and speaking in Hindi (I can see your dad lifting his brows!) but of course understanding Tamil (thats a very very important part of your upbringing as per your dad)
Thank you for all your hugs, kisses, bites, slaps, smiles, tears and everything
Two years with you have been the most wonderful and if I had any qualms about becoming a mother, you have ensured that it all got wiped out of my stupid head….
Your character is slowly being revealed to us and from what I see….
you are a headstrong two year old, who wants food ALL THE TIME,
you love animals but scared to touch them (eeps thats my genes!!!!)
you share your stuff with people you know
you are very attached to other kids and your relatives
you love going to school aka. daycare, (well playgroup is yet to begin baby!)
you dont trouble your grandparents when your mom is NOT around which results in your Calcutta grandmom often complaining that “Amma ko dekhke, what happens to your chamatness’ (What happens to your good behaviour when you see your mom πŸ˜‰

you are a baby who likes to call other kids as chotu baby or didi or bhaiya, you like your space when you play, you love to run around, look for pussy cat and cow…
you are extremely independent wanting to eat on your own, drink from your water bottle, and wear your own clothes (due to which your mom has to increase her work 10 fold wiping, cleaning and moping after your independent gestures)
you love to dance and shake your body to any tune including your grand dad’s weird songs which only you and he can understand! you know two steps of ‘des rangila’ song and you and your dad can dance to that for hours

you are the only one in the whole wide world who can wake up your dad and not get an answer of ‘ five minutes please’
you are good in giving instructions as a result of which I dont miss out on a conventional mother in law..and your instructions range from asking your dad to remove his shoes, to switching off the television before we go out, asking grandmom to give tea to granddad…..
you are not very particular about wearing anything and I usually fool you by putting on the easiest of clothes (not the trendiest though!) saying thats pussy cat on the dress πŸ˜‰
you like wearing ‘cleeppp’ in your hair but then short soft silky hair means that you just remove it and give it to me after 2 minutes of preening πŸ˜‰
you help out in small ways like keeping the dinner plates and spoon on the table, or taking your own glass back to the kitchen or even separating veggies to put in the refrigerator
you love listening to ‘aal izz well’ and ‘lakadi ke kathi’ and can say ‘abcd..’, ‘guru brahma gurur vishnu’ and the gayathri mantra..BUT..I have never heard it completely…your calcutta grandmom says that you say it well…well guess I am not so lucky to hear that :):)
you do infuriate me at times by clinging to me like crazy when I have the most important of tasks to finish and refusing to go to anyone else..or at times when you want only me to clean your potty or take you to the bathroom for su-su…or just cry non stop for three additional biscuits which are not too good for your health
but darling, we love you a lot and just wanted to say thank you for being our kiddo :)”
