My Hubby is from Calcutta…and speaks pretty flawless Bengali…though he spent about 10 to 12 years of his life out of Calcutta now….at times the hard core Calcuttan shows up in him..when I say Calcuttan..it doesnt mean Bengali..just as all Mumbaikars are not Marathi..similarly all Calcuttans are not Bongs..but there are some attributes which they have which define their Calcuttan-ness :):)
For instance, these are some of the stuff that he does, that shows his Calcuttan-ness 🙂
-Breaking into Bengali whenever he talks to his sister..
-Eating Puchkas and counting the number he ate without bother about the per plate concept that works in Mumbai….in Calcutta, the Puchkas are charged per piece
-Often asking the sweetmeat guys for number of pieces in sweets instead of the weight…In calcutta, you get sweets by the number and not by weight as in Mumbai
-Supporting the KKR team
-Being a big fan of Saurav Ganguly
-Reading the ‘Telegraph’ regularly on the net 🙂
-Eating aloo in any form or shape
-Following football with a fanantic intensity 🙂
So what are you at heart??? a Mumbaikar, Blorean, Chennaite, Barodian or what???
